Where are you, O my brother

Our « short of the week of the month » comes for algerian director Yanis Koussim. He did once explored Algiers’ night in french-algerian 2012 webdoc A summer in Algiers. According to his point of view, the night is less dangerous than the day. Less demons go by night. For sure, in 2010, he shot My Brother, a realistic short drama that showed another side of the sheetan (evil in arabic). If apparently the film deals with domestic violence, it also reveals the outside Algerian society. The violence that occurs in the street, in administrations, in religion, in politics is so overwhelming that it can destroy a family from the very inside. It can destroy love. Without spoiling or over-interpreting anything, let’s say My Brother is the typical movie you don’t want to watch twice. Because it is disturbing.
